Frequently asked questions

Questions regarding certificates and transcripts
  • How do I get a certificate of enrollment in the Foundation Course?
From your student area on Segreteria Online you can download an enrollment certificate (indeed, a self-certification).
If you need a signed and stamped version, please write to the Student Office and specify your name and your matricola number.
  • I have not yet finished the Foundation Course and need a transcript of exams and midterms passed. How can I get it?
You cannot get it. Only after you have successfully passed the Foundation Course, passing all the required exams, can you get a transcript with grades of all the exams (but of mid-terms).
  • I have finished the Foundation Course and need a final certificate. How can I get it?
From your student area on Segreteria Online you can download the final certificate (indeed, a self-certification).
If you need a signed and stamped version, please write to the Student Office and specify your name and your matricola number.
Questions regarding studies after the Foundation Course
  • After the Foundation Course, I would like to enroll in the Economics and Management course at the School of Economics and Management of the University of Siena. Do I have to take an entrance exam? Do I have to submit an English language certificate at the B2 level?
The answer to both questions is no:
Successful completion of the Foundation Course replaces the Economics and Management entrance exam.
The passing of the English language B2 exam is recognized by our University as equivalent to a B2 level certificate.
  • After the Foundation Course, I would like to enroll in a bachelor course at the University of Siena. Do I have to submit further documents to enroll? Do I have to reapply for a Visa on the Universitaly portal? What is the enrollment procedure?
If you want to enroll in the Economics and Management course (all curricula) at the School of Economics and Management, you don't need to submit further documents: the ones you submitted for enrollment at the Foundation Course are sufficient. To enroll, you have to wait the opening of matriculation (for the a.y. 2024-25 it should be at the beginning of July 2024), and use the online procedure available at the matriculation webpage.
If you want to enroll in another course at the School of Economics and Management or at another School/department of the University of Siena, additional documents may be required, depending on the course: Please ask the student office of the School/department offering the course you are interested in.
For what about visa, it depends on the Ministry's requirements, which are disclosed annually by March. For a.y. 2023-24, there was no need to reapply for the visa on the Universitaly portal, but only to renew the residence permit at the Questura, after registering.
  • If I pass the Foundation Course, will I be able to enroll in a bachelor's degree course in Economics and/or Management at another university?
We cannot guarantee this: You need to check with the university you want to attend.
  • Does the successful completion of the Foundation Course entitle me to enroll in a bachelor course in other departments/schools at the University of Siena or at another university?
We cannot guarantee this: You have to ask the authorities of the bachelor's degree in which you are interested. Please note that if the bachelor's degree you are interested in is taught in Italian, you may need a higher level of Italian than that the Foundation Course Italian course will take you to.
Questions about language certification
  • Do I need an English language certificate to be admitted to the Foundation Course?
We require Foundation Course students to have an English language level of B1. This must be certified by one of the certificates recognized by our University and must be submitted at the pre-enrolment stage on DreamApply (see also this page regarding the a.y. 2024-25 intake).
    (updated March, 2024)
  • Do I need to have an Italian language certificate to be admitted to the Foundation Course?
No previous knowledge of Italian is required.
  • Will the Foundation Course English course give me a B2 level certificate in English?
Passing the Foundation Course English course is internally recognized by our university as equivalent to a B2 level certificate. However, it is not a formal certification and may not be recognized outside the University of Siena. Anyway, our Foreign Languages Center (CLA) is an authorized Cambridge English exam center, and you can take there the B2 First (FCE), C1 Advanced (CAE) and C2 Proficiency (CPE) exams. Please take a look at the CLA website.
  • Will the Foundation Course Italian course give me an Italian language certificate?
No. We are working to provide our international students with the opportunity to obtain Italian language proficiency level certifications.
